When a thermal infrared camera detects infrared energy, it converts such data into an electronic signal, which is then processed to produce a thermal image and perform temperature calculations. What normally would be invisible to the eye, in the manner of heat and how it is distributed, is now visible through the use of thermal infrared images.
Can Infrared Cameras Be Used in Broad Daylight?
As mentioned, infrared security cameras detect infrared energy, or heat, in order to produce an image. How much or how little light is available makes no real difference on whether or not an infrared security camera will be able to produce a proper image. This is one of the perks to an infrared camera, as it will continuously be able to provide added security, even in low light conditions.
However, it should be noted that sunlight produces both light and heat which can alter images from infrared security cameras that are located outside a building. Depending on the camera’s location, these are things to consider and ask a certified specialist to help when drafting a security and/or surveillance plan. Meanwhile, infrared security cameras should have little to no alteration as most buildings maintain a steady temperature throughout the year.
